EMPOWER
INDIVIDUALS TO CONDUCT AN EFFECTIVE JOB SEARCH
CRC energizes and empowers clients by offering education,
training and mentoring in a supportive environment focused on self-empowerment.
CRC teaches self-reliance as the cornerstone of success. Its unique
program energizes and empowers unemployed and underemployed adults by
providing education, training, and mentoring. Through meetings with
CRC advisors, and attendance at educational programs, clients learn
more about themselves, explore career options, and develop a focused
approach and plan of action. By understanding and becoming able to articulate
their specialized set of skills, strengths, and talents, clients can
more successfully market themselves, maximizing their chance of finding
satisfying employment.
Learning new strategies on appropriate and effective self-promotion
skills can benefit a client well beyond his initial goal of seeking
new employment. Indeed, the client’s employment represents the
achievement of the mutual goals of CRC and his community, namely that
his job search be successful and that he become increasingly independent,
both financially and personally.

Career Resource Center began as a religious outreach mission in the
late 1980s with an innovative approach for serving the needs of a few
local individuals impacted by the “white collar” recession.
CRC “officially” opened its doors in a rental facility in
1990. Initially a volunteer director operated the Center three days
a week.
To keep up with Career Resource Center’s resounding success and
move forward with its needs-driven growth, CRC employed an Executive
Director, became incorporated (1994), received its tax-exempt nonprofit
status (1995), expanded to full-time operations (1996), relocated to
larger quarters in a retreat-like setting (2002), and renovated the
facility and upgraded technology (2008-2009).
Using a creative approach, CRC has been able to respond to the ever-changing
economy and needs of the Center’s clientele by making modifications
to services that embrace best practices and new technology without diminishing
the “personal touch” for which CRC is so well known.
During Career Resource Center’s 19 years of service it has achieved
significant growth, and emerged as a benchmark for Chicagoland nonprofit
career transition centers.
The Center moved from a church affiliated, limited-hours outreach mission
to an incorporated, nonprofit organization offering comprehensive re-employment
services. CRC has grown from assisting a few local clients per week
to serving the needs of approximately 1,000 clients each year.
Since inception, CRC has served more than 10,500 individuals, possessing
great diversity in professions, experience, gender, age and residency.
Today our volunteer corps has grown to over 115 individuals who all
offer their expertise pro-bono.
